Hardship allowances given during 2007

During 2007 CWDR provided hardship allowances to 65 families in Kilii and Mullai

The families that received the hardship allowance were facing hardships due to many causes. These included those: facing loss of property due to flooding; needing to buy educational material for their school going children; needing funds to start a small income generation project; needing to improve the very poor nutritional standard of their children; needing to cover medical expenses due to serious illness; needing to buy products during child birth; and facing displacement.

The allowances were used by families to dig wells, setup smail retail shops, to buy livestock, and to buy fishing equipments for their livelihood.

A total of Rs 250,000 was handed out as hardship allowance to 43 families in the Kilinochchi district. A further 22 families from the Mullaithivu distrcit were given hardship allowances totalling Rs 375,000.

The funds were provided by the OXFAM.
